, 18, of 313 4th Avenue SW, Independence, Iowa, pled guilty to Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony; Attempted Burglary in the First Degree, a Class C Felony; and Assault While Participating in a Felony, a Class D Felony, in Buchanan County District Court on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

Walztoni was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of 7 years on the charge of Robbery in the Second Degree. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the charge of Attempted Burglary in the First Degree. On the charge of Assault While Participating in a Felony, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of 5 years. The prison sentences are being run concurrently to each other. Walztoni must also pay all court costs, restitution for court-appointed attorney fees and victim restitution.

These charges stem from Walztoni’s involvement in a home invasion at 414 6th Ave NW in Independence on February 11, 2014. On that date, an occupant of the home awoke to hear voices and upon investigating discovered three suspects attempting to burglarize the residence. One of the suspects, Madison Marie Clay, hit the resident in the head with a hammer. Upon falling to the ground after being struck by the hammer, the resident was held down by a second suspect while a third perpetrator, Ethan Joseph Walztoni, obtained a firearm to aide in their escape. A fourth suspect was waiting in a vehicle outside the residence to further assist in their escape.
