Jessica Marie Pirtle - May 28, 2014
Jessica Marie Pirtle, 18, of 855 Prospect Street, Lamont, Iowa, received a deferred judgment on the charge of Conspire to Manufacture, Deliver and/or Possess with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, a Class C Felony, in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on April 1, 2014. Pirtle had previously entered a guilty plea to the charge on January 28, 2014. The matter of Pirtle’s sentence was contested with Pirtle and her attorney requesting a deferred judgment, which both the prosecutor and the pre-sentence investigation report prepared by the First Judicial District Department of Correctional Services opposed. The Court decided to grant Pirtle’s request for a deferred judgment and suspended the mandatory minimum civil penalty of $1,000.00 and placed Pirtle on probation supervision with the First Judicial District Department of Correctional Services for five years. Pirtle must also pay $125 Law Enforcement Initiative Surcharge, court costs, restitution for court-appointed attorney fees and submit to DNA profiling.
Jessica Marie Pirtle, Anthony Wayne Pirtle, Zachary Wayne Pirtle, Booker James Melver, John William Burgess, Matthew Scot Davis and Addie Madesta Craver were charged with conspiring to manufacture methamphetamine on August 20, 2013, at 855 Prospect Street, Lamont, Iowa. Zachary Wayne Pirtle pled guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on January 28, 2014. Booker James Melver pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison on May 20, 2014. John William Burgess pled guilty and received a suspended 10 year prison sentence with two to five years of probation and placement at a residential facility for a period of 1 year or maximum benefits on April 8, 2014. Addie Madesta Craver pled guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on February 4, 2014.
Matthew Scot Davis and Anthony Wayne Pirtle are awaiting trial which is currently scheduled to begin on June 25, 2014. A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
