Booker James Melver - May 28, 2014
Booker James Melver, 35, of 116 Park View, Apt 2, Arlington, Iowa, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine, a Class C Felony, on April 1, 2014, in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County.
Melver was sentenced to a prison term of 10 years and a fine of $1,000.00 on May 20, 2014. The prison term was imposed and the fine was suspended. Melver must also pay $125 Law Enforcement Initiative Surcharge, $10 Drug Abuse Resistance Education Surcharge, court costs, restitution for court-appointed attorney fees, and his license to drive will be revoked for 180 days and he must submit to DNA profiling.
Jessica Marie Pirtle, Anthony Wayne Pirtle, Zachary Wayne Pirtle, Booker James Melver, John William Burgess, Matthew Scot Davis and Addie Madesta Craver were charged with conspiring to manufacture methamphetamine on August 20, 2013, at 855 Prospect Street, Lamont, Iowa. Jessica Marie Pirtle pled guilty and received a deferred judgment on April 1, 2014. Zachary Wayne Pirtle pled guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on January 28, 2014. John William Burgess pled guilty and received a suspended 10 year prison sentence with two to five years of probation and placement at a residential facility for a period of 1 year or maximum benefits on April 8, 2014. Addie Madesta Craver pled guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on February 4, 2014.
Matthew Scot Davis and Anthony Wayne Pirtle are awaiting trial which is currently scheduled to begin on June 25, 2014. A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
