Jeffery Allen Coonrad, 24, of Manchester (formerly Lamont), Iowa, was sentenced on one charge of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a Class C Felony, in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
On April 27, 2010, Coonrad received a deferred judgment with five years of probation for the offense. On October 23, 2014, and February 25, 2015, the Iowa Department of Correctional Services filed reports alleging Coonrad had violated the terms of his probation supervision. On March 10, 2015, Coonrad admitted he violated the terms of his probation supervision and his deferred judgment was revoked.
In addition to revoking his deferred judgment, the Court sentenced Coonrad to a prison term of up to 10 years and a fine of $1,000.00. Both the prison sentence and fine were suspended and Coonrad was placed on probation supervision to the First Judicial District Department of Correctional Services on the corrections continuum for a period of two to five years. The corrections continuum permits the Department of Correctional Services to place Coonrad into a residential treatment facility if, in the discretion of the Department of Correctional Services, completion of such a program becomes necessary and appropriate based on Coonrad’s acts and/or omissions following sentencing.
Coonrad must also register as a sex offender, pay a sex offender registry civil penalty of $250.00 and sex offender registry fee of $25.00, submit a physical specimen for DNA profiling and complete sex offender treatment. A no contact order was also entered preventing Coonrad from having any contact with his victim for five years, after which it may be renewed for additional five year terms.
Following completion of his sentence, Coonrad will remain under supervision as if on parole for the rest of his life.
