Joshua Bill Wallace, 36, of Independence, Iowa, was sentenced to serve a prison term of 30 years in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on August 15, 2017.
On May 30, 2017, Wallace pleaded guilty to three counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree and three counts of Incest. The charges of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree arose from Wallace committing sexual abuse on a child twelve or thirteen years of age; the charges of Incest arose from Wallace performing sexual acts on a relative. All of the acts occurred between March 19, 2013 and October 18, 2014.
Each count of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree carries a prison sentence of 10 years; each count of Incest carries a prison sentence of 5 years. The State requested the prison terms on each charge run consecutive for a total of 45 years. Wallace requested the prison terms on each charge run concurrent for a total of 10 years. District Court Judge Bradley Harris ordered each third degree sexual abuse sentence to run consecutive to each other but concurrent with the incest sentences for a total of 30 years.
Following completion of his prison sentence, Wallace will be placed on the sex offender registry for life and remain under supervision as if on parole for the rest of his life. He will also be required to pay various civil penalties, submit a physical specimen for DNA profiling and complete sex offender treatment.
